J&M Hydraulics, original designer and manufacturer
of the ICE vibrator, has been purchased by APE.
J&M first starting making deep foundation products
for L.B. Foster in 1969. In 1974, J&M shocked the world
with a revolutionary vibratory pile driver/extractor that
featured a simple open loop hydraulic system and a giant
rubber spring suppressor first pioneered by Ed
Haverkamp of Grand Rapids, Michigan. J&M sold 20
million dollars worth to ICE in the first two years.
J&M went on to become the largest vibro pile driver/
extractor manufacturer in the world, selling the machines
exclusively to ICE from 1974 to early 2001.
J&M broke away from ICE in the latter part of 2000
and began selling their machines directly to the pile
driving contractors under the HMC logo.
It was no secret that J&M was the maker of the ICE
vibrator, but many contractors were not aware that J&M
also made other products for ICE, including auger drills,
spotters, power unit, and hydraulic impact hammers.
J&M was also the spare parts manufacturer, which
many ICE owners became to know through drop
shipments of parts and direct calls for service.
John White, President of APE, says "J&M made a
marketing mistake when they broke away from ICE and
changed their name to HMC". White continues by
saying "The J&M name was household to most
contractors and changing the name confused people".
White also says that J&M made a further mistake by
changing the model numbers to kilo joules. "Who ever
made that decision was a complete ass" says White.
Anyone owning or considering the purchase of a 216,
416, 815, 44, or 66 should contact APE for a price quote.

million in new rental equipment including 216's, 416's, a
new 416B with rifle bored top plate to eliminate hoses,
tons and tons of parts as well as 44's and 66's.
APE will also offer complete gearbox exchange
programs for those contractors needing fast repairs of
older equipment.
King Evarts Jr., the father of the ICE vibrator, will

name of J&M Foundation Equipment. For more
